From November 21 to December 1 the Republican Arsenals of Pisa will host the third edition of the Pisa Biennale. Alfonso Femia, director of the 2019 Biennale, proposes a reflection that is also an awareness campaign on the theme of water, architecture and territory.

Imagine a time when Water will be memory and present. Imagine the use and reuse. Inventing buildings that restore their purity. Allow Water to pass through neighborhoods, but also houses and buildings. Design it on the verticality of the towers. Tame it, love it, respect it.

Apparently non-existent places, the Arno. The magnificent “sir” who designs the urban landscape but who is also a border, a caesura and that could become a stage again, become part of the urban fabric. Florence cannot disregard the river or even use it as a background or suffer it as an obstacle.

“Bridge of Love”, created for Luisa Via Roma on the occasion of Pitti (Florence 2016), goes to reconstitute an inhabited fabric, which unites water to the banks and extends the experience of the river city up to direct contact with water, new urban territory, to be dedicated to culture and leisure. From this arise ideas of temporary and transparent architecture, floating in the river or positioned in proximity, like small transparent villages.
